Refitting of conical Screw-Mixers, Screw-Dryers, Screw-Coolers, Srew-Reactors

AVA is a leader in the field of vertical cone mixers and dryers. The AVA helical mixing system has proven itself in industrial applications and has considerable advantages over the orbiting screw system. To give the owners of existing installations with orbiting screws and internal gear a chance to upgrade without having to purchase new machines, AVA has developed a technique allowing the integration of helical agitators into existing conical screw mixer and dryer vessels.

Practical experience has demonstrated the following advantages of the modification:

• Maintenance and repair costs practically eliminated as the angular geared boxes systems are removed.
• Capacity increase of the existing mixer / dryer by of up to 60%.
• Significantly shorter mixing time due to the AVA helical agitator.
• Process time reduced up to a factor 4 for drying, cooling and heating due to the AVA helical agitator.
• Option to use choppers in the product compartment to reduce the particle size and shorten drying time.
• AVA helix needs only one drive compared with the two drives on an orbital arm screw mixer (one for the screw and one for the rotating orbital arm).
• Agitator shaft and helix can be heated for additionally shortened process times for drying, cooling and heating.

Installation

Refitting on-site takes between 2 and 5 days, depending on the size of the machine and the demands on the joints. The new AVA agitator is self-centring or built rigidly enough to require no additional bearing at the bottom.
The modification has been performed successfully on customer’s machines with capacities up to 25,000 litres.

The refitting has been successfully performed on customer’s machines up to 25,000 litres capacity.

For products tending to agglomerate there is the possibility to install a separately powered chopper in the lower part of the machine together with the AVA helical mixing system.

Machines produced by the following manufacturers can be modified:

• KMPT (Krauss Maffei)
• Hosokawa Nauta
• Jaygo, Littleford Day
• Bolz Summix
• All other machines that work according to the orbital screw principle.

Experience shows that the investment for the modification pays back within a period of  12 to 36 months and that an increase in production is achieved in addition. 

Trials

We would be delighted to demonstrate the advantages of the helix system to you at our technology centre. Machines with operational capacity between 30 and 150 litres are available.
